ADOPTION TAX CREDIT AWARENESS DAY

Are you an adoptive parent?

Did you adopt a special needs child?

You may qualify for the full amount of the Adoption Tax Credit, even if you paid few or no adoption-related expenses. If claiming the credit fora  special needs final adoption, you only need to submit the final adoption order or decree and the state's determination of special needs or subsidy agreement.

Families claiming the credt can still use IRS Free File to prepare their 2011 tax return and Form 8839, but the tax return and Form 8839 must be printed and mailed to the IRS, along with all adoption credit-related documents.

Please help us to raise awareness about the adoption tax credit! Here is an informational flier that includes relevant links to learn more.

Many taxpayers claiming the expanded adoption credit are slowing down their refund by not attaching required documents to their tax returns.  To find out more on requirements and other important information go to www.irs.gov, key word "Adoption Credit."

The Affordable Care Act raised the maximum adoption credit to $13,360 per child for tax year 2011. The credit is refundable.

It could take up to three weeks to get a refund, even with proper documentation attached to the return.

AUNDREA

Aundrea is a special little girl who was previously listed with CAP. She found her forever family in Pennsylvania and we're so excited to get an update from them.

When Aundrea came to Lee and Lorry, she was said to be "profoundly retarded." Has this changed! Since being with a family, Aundrea has made leaps and bounds! Lorry now calls herself an "empty nester" as Aundrea is off to school from 7:30 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon, only to return giggling and full of happiness.
